Denise Black is a Nidan, 2nd Dan (Degree), black belt in Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo and a student of Sensei Nate Mason. She has been instructing since 1996, and opened the Blue Hill branch of Eastern Maine Karate Dojos in July of 2002.
Since 1998, she has worked with local parents groups, schools, and communities, to develop and successfully implement after school programming for the Blue Hill, Sedgwick, Brooklin, and Penobscot elementary schools. These programs are provided to school age children and home schooled children free of charge, and are the first of their kind in Hancock County.
She has also taught and assisted in many self-defense and awareness/prevention programs for various organizations and schools, for youth and adults in Hancock and Washington Counties. Her defense program entitled "The Womanly Art of Self Defense and Empowerment" has been specifically designed for women of all ages and abilities. Awareness and Prevention 101: is offered for youth and teens in area schools on a regular basis.
Sensei Black also teaches weekly classes for tots, youth, teens, and adults of all ages at our new studio location at 269 Mines Road in Blue Hill.
