ALL DOJO WORKOUT

w/ Shihan Lazarus

Shihan Lazarus, 7th dan and OSMSKKF Eastern United States Representative, held an All Dojo Workout, at the MDI YMCA in Bar Harbor, for all Eastern Maine students. The workout was a success with a great turnout from students of the Bar Harbor, Castine, Cherryfield, Ellsworth, Harrington, Hermon and Orland Dojos.  Shihan taught exciting kick training drills in both the youth and adult classes. Shihan demonstrated weapons defense techniques with

Sensei Wilbur and performed the kata, Chinto, which is a high black belt level kata.

After the workout, black belts got together for dinner. It was nice to see all the black belt students from Dover (Sensei Bob, Sensei David, Sensei Tim and Sempai Kristin).

We want to thank Shihan for taking the time to travel up to Maine and train us. We also want to thank our teachers Sensei Wilbur, Sensei Hamel, Sensei Mason, Sensei Apsega, Sensei Leach & Sensei Perry for making this workout happen. As always, we look forward to the next All Dojo Workout!

MDI SELF-DEFENSE CLASS

w/ Sensei Mason

Sensei Mason was asked to conduct a Self-Defense class for students of the MDI High School. The class was held at the high school on May 1. There was a great turnout.

Sensei taught basic defense techniques and awareness. Sempai Anna and Diane Woodworth were there to assist. Sensei Mason thanks everyone who participated and helped with the class.

WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR

Held by Sempai Denise

Sempai Denise Black, with the assistance of Sempai Anna, held 2 Woman’s Self-Defense Seminars for Next Step, which is a Domestic Violence Agency. The two sessions, 4/29 & 5/6, were held in Blue Hill. There was a great turnout for both sessions.   Basic defense techniques

and self-awareness/prevention was the focus of this seminar. Many thanks goes out to Gary Huntley and Jason Fuller for their help with the seminar (and for being the punching bags!) Denise has been asked to conduct another Self-Defense Seminar in Lubec. Details will be provided soon.

HERMON NEWS

April has been a busy month for the Hermon Dojo. The April 9th demonstration for the Center Drive School was a lot of fun and it was made possible by Anders Beal, Nick Nelson & Ashley Lerose.

The students of the Hermon Dojo are still talking about Shihan Lazarus’s visit to the MDI YMCA on 4/13. The whole experience was very aspiring to all karateka. The students from Hermon thank everyone who made that possible.

EASTERN MAINE BLACK BELTS SPREAD SELF-DEFENSE & AWARENESS TO THE LOCL COMMUNITIES

As you have read in this newsletter, many of our instructors and assistant instructors have given Self-Defense Seminars and Demonstrations for our surrounding communities. These seminars and demonstrations have been by request. This is great for Eastern Maine Karate schools and the federation as it helps promote our schools and build them stronger. As OSMSKKF members, it is our job to pass on our knowledge to others and to represent the federation in a professional manner. This has been done countless numbers of times over the years and will continue in the years to come.
